With just the short time we had, we managed to wander a few blocks to a Jonathan's restaurant where Sequoia filled up on a hearty breakfast and they informed me after I'd placed my order that sorry they don't have pancakes today. I was already halfway through pouring myself a coffee so when I couldn't find anything else on the menu that I felt like eating, I got stuck paying for the drinks bar, which ended up being 100 yen less than if I'd got my full pancakes meal. Oh well, Sequoia kindly shared her toast and before we knew it it was time to head back to the hotel to collect our bags.
Sequoia stopped at a family mart to grab some snacks for the flight, I continued on to go collect our bags from the hotel. Somehow I walked straight past our hotel and it was a good few blocks before I realised I recognised nothing at all around me. It started to rain heavier and I eventually found a rather confused Sequoia, clutching her bag full of goodies standing outside the lobby. We quickly grabbed our things as we needed to get to our train station as we had at least an hour ride out to the airport ahead of us.
Picture the both of us trying to race down the street, all luggage for a 5 week adventure in tow, rain pouring down our faces to the point I was running blind. Then we clumsily dragged ourselves and our things down 2 flights of steep steps only to find we were at the wrong station. We then had to drag our bedraggled selves up those same flights of stairs, dash through the rainy streets again and take it all down another couple of flights of stairs only to forlornly watch our train pull out of the station as we lumbered down the final few stairs.
Fortunately, another train soon come along and it would take us right out to the airport, so we still managed to get all checked in well before the cut-off time.
Don't get me wrong, I love Japan and although we boarded our plane a little worse for wear and really unnecessarily poorer, I'm glad we stopped. Nihombashi looks like a great place and I look forward to returning for a proper visit in Tokyo one day. I really do know better than to try to cram too much into such a small amount of time, but I guess rules are made to be broken. In hindsight I know that I should have just insisted we get a room near the airport so we could be well rested before our next flight over the Eurasia continent, but Sequoia enjoyed navigating us into the city and our little adventure was not without fun.
We even had a little bit of time to kill at the airport. Sequoia posted a few postcards and we grabbed a quick bite to eat (I was rather famished by this time).
Before we knew it, it was time to board our next flight and be on our way to our next little adventure.
