Gotica

So today we're off to do the rather touristy run of visiting Parc Guell and Sagrada Famila and exploring many things Gaudi.

Best to start the day with a great breakfast and after a little wander through the backstreets in the Gothic Quarter, we have stumbled upon the little cafe Boqueria, which serves pancakes and coffee. A perfect start to the day.

I was worried that we wouldn't love Barcelona as much because Paris was so amazing, but in its quiet gritty way, we are enjoying every moment.

A walk up Les Rambles and we were soon at the Metro and on our way to Parc Guell, the amazing park designed by Antoni Gaudi.

The Spaniards appear to be very politically and socially vocal, which I can appreciate, but perhaps some so not want our tourist €€$$ to support the local economy?

Once we got to the Metro Stop near Parc Guell, I'm sure we managed to take the absolutely longest and most arduous route to the park.

I always say that the best way to get to know a foreign city is to get hopelessly lost in it.

I do love all the quirky street art and signs all over Barcelona.

The architecture is pretty amazing also.

We started our visit to Parc Guell with a visit to the Gaudi House Museum. A deeply religious man with an incredible eye for precision and quite innovative in many areas of design:

We then took a wander around the park grounds before our ticketed time in the Monumental area.

We stopped and enjoyed this guitar player along the way:

The views over Barcelona were stunning:

Then it was time to head into the Monumental area:

Once we had had a good visit here we headed over to the Sagrada Familia, the incredible Gaudi-designed church that began construction in 1882 and only reached half way built in 2010. The tickets to go inside were pretty pricey but I was happy to pay this, knowing that we are contributing to the ongoing construction and a little bit of us is now part of it.

It really is spectacular.
